Norman & Ernest Spittle / Art Fittings Ltd lidded coal bin, England circa 1903. The Spittle brothers were the firm behind Art Fittings where Gustav Stickley purchased several items while visiting London, which became the foundation of the designs he put into production in his own shop. It is clear to see the inspiration he took from this bin for his own work. This incredibly rare piece features an original patina and is executed in hammered copper with iron handles, with original steel liner. It came directly from a collection in Birmingham England and is pictured in their catalog, one of the most expensive objects they produced. Measures 18.5” tall to handle top and the lid is 13” wide.
