HANDICRAFT GUILD of minneapolis

The Handicraft Guild of Minneapolis was opened in 1904 and was a training school for many aspiring artists in the city. The work mostly consists of copper items with finely worked acid etching and reticulated designs. The majority of the work is signed yet many pieces can be attributed based on quality and design attributes. Ernest Batchelder was a major figure at the guild prior to moving to California and opening his tile business, many of the classic HG designs are attributed to his hand. Other key figures included Douglas Donaldson (prior to following Batchelder to Pasadena), Ida Pell Conklin and James Winn.
