CRAFTSMAN STUDIOS
The Craftsman Studios was started in 1918 in Brooklyn New York by Carl Wirths. Shortly thereafter, the company had moved to California, eventually landing in Laguna Beach. The early hammered copper work is most desirable, heavier forms with lovely acid etched work. Most of this material is unsigned, there is one copy of a period Brooklyn catalog known to exist which we have reprinted. Collectors also look for their tall shaft vases, heavily hammered with repoussé floral and geometric bands at the top - these are signed “CS” in a circle shape. You can order a copy of the reprinted catalog from us, more information can be found HERE.
CRAFTSMAN STUDIOS : A CATALOGUE OF ARTISTIC & USEFUL GIFTS
Craftsman Studios catalog reprint book. Hammered & Hewn partnered with The Parchment Press to reprint the only known copy of the Craftsman Studios catalog from their Brooklyn period, dating to around 1918. This is the earliest period and features hundreds of items that are all found unsigned, great reference for collectors who want to ID period items. We enlisted the help of fellow collector David Locky to pen a lengthy introduction on the history of the shop & founder, Carl Wirths. It also has other examples of work pictured as well as a guide to the shop marks. 38 pages, measures 6” by 9”. $20 with free shipping.
