Letter from Bruce Inverarity dated March 9th, 1981
Dear Mrs. Austin-McKillop:
I am sorry to be so late in answering your good letter of 4 February but we have been in Mexico and just returned to find your letter.
Many years ago I made a series of color block prints of San Francisco which sold very well. Then I did a series of etchings of Seattle which were sold by Lowman and Hanford then another series of color block prints of the northwest...after that I did a series of drawings with the thought in mind that they could be used to illustrate a book that I was writing. A friend of mine, at that time owner of Craftsman Press, and I thought these might also sell so we ran them off on a litho machine and I designed a little hand print as a symbol of the series. Well a few sold not well, as people were not interested in Indian things then. What you purchased at auction belongs to the last series. There was a color print of Lonely Sentinals and a two color print titled Lone Totem ...I have one of each...You are the only person who has ever mentioned them to me since about 1934 when they were made...there cannot have been too many copies in the beginning and certainly less now. Hope the above is of some help altho you and I may be the only people who have prints! We expect to be in Seattle agin this summer as I am working on a book and need to do some quick research..so we will have a chat then...
