O'Hara and Livermore Studio of Applied Art candlesticks, San Fransisco CA circa 1905. A very scarce pair of bronze candlesticks from this important Bay Area applied art and interior design studio. Lillian O’Hara and Grace Livermore were a couple who had close ties to Lillian Palmer and Julia Morgan. Their Sutter Street design studio was destroyed in the 1906 earthquake but reopened and became one of the most important firms in the city. They expanded with locations in Pasadena and Santa Barbara and owned a bungalow community in San Anselmo where they held Equal Suffrage League meetings. The firm exhibited at many California exhibitions showing metalwork, leather, books and furniture. A publication on the art at the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exhibition featured an article on the firm entitled “Creators of the Arts & Crafts Movement on the Pacific Coast” - crediting them with much of the movements development in the West. This pair of candlesticks are signed with a paper label from the studio and one original bobeché remains. Measure 12” tall and 5.5” wide. SOLD
