Laurin Hovey Martin, Society of Arts & Crafts enameled copper box, Boston circa 1905. This hammered copper & enamel box is an early example of the work coming out of Boston much of it taught by Martin. The enamel is in excellent condition, showcasing a grove of orange trees along a stream with mountains and clouds in the distance. The box is hand raised with fine hammering, interior is enameled in green, has one chip & some spiderwebbing but overall nice condition. Attribution, Unsigned. Measures 4” wide by 2” tall. SOLD
LAURIN HOVEY MARTIN: Martin is one of the earliest teachers & practitioners of Arts & Crafts in Boston. He studied in England at the Birmingham School of Arts & Crafts as well as with Alexander Fisher & Arthur Gaskin. A nearly identical box is attributed to Martin based on how exhibition records.
